CONFERENCE REGISTRATION INFORMATION

USOA conference attendee room block rate: $194/night + taxes/fees*

*Please note, the Seabird Resort will match the federal rate based on the set rate at the time of the conference.

You must first register for the conference and then you will receive a link in your confirmation email for access to book a room at the USOA conference rate.

There are three separate registration options:

  • 1.    Main and Single Day Conference
  • 2.    Pre-Conference
  • a.     New Ombudsman Training (Two-day training)
  • b.     Concentrated Skillset Training (See options below)

As you click into each registration option page, scroll down to find the "Register" button.

Please note, members whose fiscal years run through October 1 will be able to register at the early registration rate until October 11, 2024. To arrange this registration for your office, please contact Jordan Steffen – jsteffen@coloradocpo.org – as soon as possible.

Registration will tentatively close on October 15, 2024.

*Payment notifications will be sent out October 28, 2024 for unpaid invoices. If the USOA does not receive confirmation of payment by November 4, 2024, then the registration will be canceled.

NOTE: No registration refunds will be issued after October 30, 2024. As a non-profit organization, the USOA incurs costs for registrations received and has to provide a final count to the Seabird Resort. The USOA will not be able to recoup costs for registrations canceled after October 30, 2024. As a result, there are no refunds for cancellations received after October 30, 2024.

Please note, that a different person may be substituted if the originally registered person determines, after October 30, 2024, that they are unable to attend. Please notify us as soon as possible if this occurs.

PRE-CONFERENCE REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Pre-Conference Option #1: New Ombudsman Training

November 18 and 19, 2024

This is a two-day training.

This is a two-day, renowned training workshop for public sector ombudsmen and their staff new to the field. The faculty is made up of seasoned experts and fellow members of USOA. This training will take attendees through each stage of a dispute process and provide some of the tools necessary to better handle a variety of issues faced by ombudsman offices.

The pre-conference registration fee includes breakfast and lunch on Monday, November 18 and Tuesday, November 19. Attendance is capped at 80. You may email Jordan Steffen (jsteffen@coloradocpo.org) or Michelle Lucarelli-Beltran (MLucarelli-Beltran@auditor.lacounty.gov) to be added to a waitlist.

Pre-Conference Option #2: Leadership Excellence: A One-day Intensive for Ombudsman

Monday, November 18, 2024 (All Day)

This is a one-day workshop taught by Kristen Mahlin, MPA. The training will provide attendees with methods for developing effective leadership within your organization. Kristen has worked extensively with the Colorado Child Protection Ombudsman Office. That work, and part of this class, will focus on providing tools about how to effectively manage and supervise staff to support agency growth and staff development.

This is a one-day intensive training. Attendance is capped at 30. You may email Jordan Steffen (jsteffen@coloradocpo.org) or Michelle Lucarelli-Beltran (MLucarelli-Beltran@auditor.lacounty.gov) to be added to a waitlist.

Pre-Conference Option #3: Integrating Equity into Ombudsman Practices

Tuesday, November 19, 2024 (All Day)

This is one-day workshop taught by Doris Tolliver, JD, MA. This one-day intensive training will provide attendees with real-time tools for integrating equity into their agencies. This includes approaching the following through an equity lens: recruitment and hiring practices, strategic planning for programs and organizations, management and messaging.

This is a one-day intensive training.

Pre-Conference Option #4: The Art of Communication: A Deep Dive into Workstyles and Team Dynamics

Tuesday, November 19, 2024 (AM Session)

This half-day immersive workshop will be taught by Kristen Mahlin, MPA. The interactive workshop is designed to equip participants with skills needed to navigate and optimize communication across varied workstyles within any team, group or one-on-one setting. This workshop offers a deep dive into understanding, recognizing, and effectively adapting to the four common communication styles generally used in today's multifaceted work environments. Participants will learn through a blended teaching approach that includes expert presentation of information and real-life examples, practical application exercises, and group interactions aimed at fostering an understanding of how to harness the power of communication to build resilient, high-performing teams.

This is a half-day intensive training. 

The fee for this preconference session includes lunch.

Pre-Conference Option #5: USOA Children and Families Chapter Pre-Conference Session

Tuesday, November 19, 2024 (PM Session)

The USOA Children and Families Chapter will be hosting individual pre-conference sessions. Each chapter will design a unique agenda based on the chapter’s subject area and expertise.

This is a half-day learning session.

The fee for this pre-conference session includes the afternoon snack.

  • USOA Member – US $125.00

ROOM RESERVATIONS/LODGING MUST BE BOOKED SEPARATELY.   Hotel reservation information will be provided in the confirmation email you will receive on completion of your conference registration.

Payment Instructions
If you are paying with a credit card, simply select pay online and the system will guide you through the process. 

If you are paying by check, simply print a copy of your invoice and mail the check to: United States Ombudsman Association, 2500 W. 2nd Avenue, Suite 15, Indianola, IA 50125.

**Once payment is received, the registrant will automatically receive an email confirming that their registration is completed.  That confirmation email will include the hotel reservation information.
